firefox 30 outlook 2007 windows 7 everything is updated the minimize/exit area is blacked out, but does still work if you click the correct area I disabled my brower extensions one by one, restarted FF, and the black was still there I started FF in safe mode and black was still there It's not worth spending a lot of my time on. I'm thinking about trying Chrome.

Did you encounter this problem in earlier versions of Firefox, or is Firefox 30 your first version of Firefox?

What kind of theme are you using at the Windows level? Firefox 29 and 30 have had the most testing with Aero themes and there may be color glitches with some of the other themes (although I've only seen it reported on Windows 8 so far).

By the way, it's a little strange that your Firefox's user agent string shows

Windows NT 5.1

which I think was XP. Windows 7 identifies as Windows NT 6.1.

I'm struggling to think of some reason for that...

I recently reinstalled my windows 7 because of some shut-down problems and problems with my printer and scanner. That fixed those windows 7 related problems.

To test how Firefox runs "uncustomized" on your system, could you do a two-minute experiment?

Create a new Firefox profile

A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.

Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):

firefox.exe -P

Do not delete anything here.

Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.

Click the Create Profile button and assign a name like TESTING. Skip the option to change the folder. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.

Does the title bar render better/correctly in the new profile?

When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button on TESTING. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
