This article describes how Firefox uses the permissions it requests while respecting your privacy. Mozilla is committed to your privacy.

Firefox for Mobile currently uses these permissions:

  • Storage - Modify/delete SD card contents. Firefox uses this permission to save downloads to the SD card. Firefox will also store its own settings and history on the SD card if you use the Android Settings app to move Firefox to SD storage.
  • Hardware controls - Take pictures and videos. When a web page requests an image file to upload, Firefox can let you choose to take a picture with your device's built-in camera. For more information, see this article about what's new for web developers in Firefox 9.
  • Network communication - Full Internet access, View network state. Firefox needs these permissions to download web pages, add-ons, and other content over the internet.
  • Your personal information - Read sensitive log data. Firefox does not currently use this permission, but it will be required for future versions of Firefox can use the Adobe Flash plug-in.
  • Phone calls - Read phone state and identity. Firefox uses this permission so it can change settings when you are connected to a mobile network. Based on user feedback, we will remove this permission from the next Firefox Beta update.
  • System Tools - Install shortcuts. Firefox allows you to add bookmarks or web apps to your home screen.
  • System Tools - Prevent phone from sleeping. Firefox does not currently use this permission, but it will be required for future versions of Firefox to use the Adobe Flash plug-in.
