My deleted folders still show but in italic grey text. How can I remove them, see attached.

If I move or delete a folder in my inbox Thunderbird leaves an empty folder (grey and italic text) in the original location. Its really frustrating as I end up with 100's of folders and endless scrolling. See attached example. I'm looking for a way to remove all deleted folders without showing in my inbox, thanks in advance.
