In my list of folders under Inbox I have another folder named INBOX, all caps, in grey, and italics. I cannot delete it permanently. In the action of deleting it will move to trash. But it will eventually reappear in my list of folders. Unsubscribing does the same thing. It keeps coming back. Been using T'bird for a number of years now. This has come up in the last six months. Never seen it before. What is going on and how can I fix it?

The folder most certainly exist in your account on the mail-server.

First of all your inboxes and trash should be empty. go offline and move everything into a local folder, compact them and try to delete. Inboxes will be recreated when you go online. Don't do that yet. Login with webmail and try to rename, delete or move it. You should not be allowed to delete the real Inbox. But be careful. Empty trash

go online with Tbird.
