Im moving from chrome to firefox and I have fairly good knowledge of software.

I cannot install add ons in firefox. it says error downloading the add on XXXXXXX. happens for all add ons. I have a 16mbps connection.

Hello, Sorry to know about your problem. After seeing your problem, it seems there are some problem in your Firefox profile. Maybe, your addons.jsn file may corrupt. For fixing it, you can try by resetting your firefox.

Please do the following to Reset.

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and click on Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Is it just that one add-on, or all of them? Try another add-on and see if there is a problem. You can always remove it later.

Sorry for this. So, I think, you should create a new profile and try to download add ons. For creating new profile, do following.

  1. Close Firefox
  2. go to run and type "Firefox -p"
  3. Then when a small window open, click on "Create profile" and do the next,
  4. After creating profile, Try to download the add-ons again.

Let me know if it solves. {note} Note that, in your new profile, your old informations will not available. Fore more information to bring information from old profile to new one, please see this article Recovering important data from an old profile
