Thunderbird - blank screen, no folders, no messages

more options

I had growing problems ever since updating to Supernova. I updated again to 115.5.2 which didn't help. So I thought, right, start again. I uninstalled Thunderbird and installed 115.9.0. Now I have no folders in the folder pane and no messages. Please see screenshot. I have checked that Thunderbird is using the right profile. I have 1 IMAP email account and 23 POP3 accounts, 19Gb of messages going back many years, all saved for good reasons, mostly business. I can't see any of them, nor incoming messages. Windows 8.1, long term Thunderbird user and donor. Michael, UK

I thought I had found the direct cause of my problem and I'm posting it in case anyone else goes down the same blind alley. If you want to jump to the actual solution look for "SOLUTION" below. Thunderbird was failing to synchronise an email account. Please see the FIRST screenshot. This is my only IMAP account and in my displayed folder structure it is separate from Local Folders, at the top of the list. I suspected that Thunderbird wants to start building my folders with this account, and because it can't do it the rest of the process fails. Unfortunately removing the IMAP account did not solve any problems.

SOLUTION I did this: Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profiles > aboutprofiles > Restart with Add-ons disabled See SECOND screenshot. This worked.

Since posting my question at 09:30 my principal Thunderbird problem has happened again - it has frozen. I don't know whether it counts as a crash because I never get a crash report request, all that happens is that I get the message Home-Mozilla Thunderbird (Not Responding) and I have to close the programme.

This is one of the problems I was having repeatedly which prompted me to try updating and then uninstaling and reinstalling Thunderbird.

I re-started Thunderbird and now one of my other old problems is happening again - Thunderbird tries to download emails (all my accounts are set to download emails on startup) and works its way down the email accounts but stops before it has completed the list. It's so quick I can't be sure but I think it only looks at about 7 - 10 of my 23 email accounts before stopping.

  • I still have a blank screen.
  • The blank Folder Pane has gone and View\layout has the option for Folder pane greyed out
  • View\All Folders has lost its tick.

Perhaps the weirdest thing - There really are NO folders showing, no Inbox, no Trash, no Drafts, nothing, and of course no Local Folders which is where I have sub-folders with my emails.

I will appreciate any help.
