Thunderbird 78.5.0 on Windows 10 desktop.

My primary (comcast) email account stopped updating 2 days ago. None of my settings were changed. I just spent WAY too long chatting with comcast, so I know everything is as OK as can be on that side. I have several other email accounts on a web server that are all fine.

I have deleted the saved password for the primary account, hoping it would connect and prompt me for my password, just in case that was the cause of the problem.

I'm stumped. Would appreciate any pointers, as I have checked and re-checked settings.

What is your antivirus? Ones like Avast/AVG are known to block previously-working accounts.

sfhowes, you are my hero!

I turned off Avast for 10 minutes, and 2 days of email came flooding into my inbox! Thank you so much for suggesting this. I've been using Avast for ages, so I never would have suspected it being behind this issue.

If you choose to remove Avast, I think you'll be well-served by using the built-in Windows Security. Add the TB profile folder as an exception in Virus and threat protection settings.

I have several email accounts split between Virgin Media and Gmail, they all stopped receiving email on the 30th of November (yesterday). The VM accounts I was able to fix by setting Imap security to none. The Gmail accounts appear to connect to the Imap server and then hang, nothing downloads and no messages are given, currently TBird says it has been connected to Imap.gmail.com for around 40 min. No security setting appear to work with Gmail. I suspect that the connection is failing but TBird is not reporting this correctly. I deleted my other Gmail account with the intention of reinstalling it. This works using auto config until I press "done" and I get the warning "Unable to login at server, etc........ . . . " My Eset AV & firewall software does not affect the accounts. I am not happy at the VM accounts being rather less secure, but at least they work, this also proves that Eset is not a problem. Current version 78.5 64bit. Coincidentally, on the 29th I cloned my system drive onto an SSD, there were no issues from this and Tbird still worked correctly afterwards for 24 hours. Any thoughts out there?

SOMETHING definitely happened to cause Thunderbird to stop working a couple of days ago. Every IMAP and Gmail account stopped for me. Disabling ESET changed nothing. Thunderbird works just fine on another PC on the same network as mine. There is nothing I can find which updated around the time this started, with the exception of ESET. However, since I disabled ESET for 10 minutes, ESET should have been taken out of the equation.
