I have three e-mail accounts that Thunderbird accesses. All use IMAP. Whenever I start Thunderbird it will not download messages in the two busiest e-mail accounts until I "Compact" the Inbox. All I get is the spinning green thingy in the upper left hand corner. It has been doing this for years and is rather annoying. If I don't Compact the inbox after startup it could take 10-15 minutes before it finally downloads the messages. Any suggestions?

You do not say how many emails you have in the Inbox. It sounds like you have alot and are operating on the limits.

If you keep quite alot of emails in the Inbox: It is advised that you use the Inbox as an inbox for new incoming mail and not as a general storage place.

Suggest you create some folders and move emails to organise. Keep the Inbox low in numbers. After deleting several emails, compact the Inbox to remove al traces of deleted emails and recover space.

Thank you for your reply but that is what I already do. The Inbox has maybe 15-40 e-mails in it at a time. After I deal with a particular e-mail I move it to local storage on the computer.
