Why was my browser.sessionstore.resumefromcrash setting deleted when I upgraded to 21.0?

I upgraded to FF 21.0 and afterwards I found that my browser.sessionstore.resumefromcrash setting had been deleted. Also my browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone setting had been set back to true, as well as the services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone setting.

However my other custom settings were preserved. Why did this happen please?

(What would be helpful would be an answer to the question, rather than a link to a manual page which contains the setting names but doesn't answer the question).

The services.sync.prefs.sync.* prefs are only used by the sync service to define which prefs will be synced to other devices, in this case the browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone pref. I.e. if such a pref is true then the pref is synced and the value of this doesn't have effect on corresponding browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone pref.

Are you using Sync?
