Firefox is set to NOT update. Yet it will periodically lose my favs, my tiles and re-set New Tab Controls to include suggested sites. HELP!! Why does it do this and what, if any, is the solution? This is driving me crazy. FF hasn't updated since Jan yet will lose the above items every 10-15 days.

When you refer to your favs, do you mean your Firefox bookmarks or some other set of favorites?

When this happens, is there evidence that a Refresh occurred? During a Refresh, Firefox moves your Firefox profile (settings) folder to the desktop inside an Old Firefox Data folder. Do you see anything like that?

Do you use any utility software like CCleaner that may be scheduled to clean up your browser data from time to time?

And why hasn't your Firefox updated to Firefox 45??

First, by favs I mean my FF bookmarks. 2ndly, I don't see anything to do w/FF on my desktop. Not sure how else I'd realize a 'refresh' occurred. I typically open FF for the first time that day and wham. Have to import bookmarks, re-set tiles and re-set the New Tab Controls box. 3rdly, I don't use anything that alters my browser. Lastly, I update FF periodically so it doesn't update automatically. FF used to lose bookmarks when it would auto update - sometimes - recently it has not lost settings but experience proves I cannot always trust FF. Regardless, updating manually obviously has nothing to do with losing settings while running under the same version. I can't fathom why this happens every so often and not on a more regular basis.

Firefox definitely doesn't have a built-in periodic data destruction feature. Even if you select the function to clear history when Firefox closes, that should not affect bookmarks or the new tab page layout setting.

When this occurs, do you lose any extensions or other settings (e.g., home page, toolbar button layout, which toolbars are visible) or other data (cookies, history, saved website zoom levels or permissions)? How selective or comprehensive is it?

Two Avast plug-ins are listed but not active: Online Security and Safeprice. Buttons don't change, but pretty sure history is wiped. I'll have to monitor it next time. Loses my default search engine at the top of page.

Thank you for the effort. Any help is appreciated.

Happened again, like clockwork. Don't have a clue. I'll try the Refresh button next time but continue to save bookmarks religiously.

I would LOVE to find out how & why FF does this.
