I use Firefox to do my banking. Nothing else. I use another browser for surfing. Also I do NO social media. No Facebook, Tweets, nothing. Just email. The bank is my default address. However it changes to this every time I log out. I go into config and search "google" and find:

http://www.google.com/cse?cx=partner-pub-3540673482024757:xbhdw8hkfz5&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=&sa=Search#gsc.tab=0

in browser.startup.homepage. This is the only instance of google. I have deleted all instances of google in config. Also it does not matter what version I use and it's up to date. Anybody out there that can help me?

Bookmark and use this; Download the Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:
