I tried, then uninstalled the v. 102 of tbird. I have tried another couple of versions, and now have installed v. 78,4,1, which was the latest installation file I had on my computer from setting it up a couple of years ago. Now, I cannot get tbird to load, getting a message that the tbird profile cannot be loaded and that the profile may be inaccessible or missing. I have tried several existing profiles from previous installations, but none work. Hiding them in a new folder in the profile folder doesn't help. Now what, any ideas?

I can't help you figure all of that, but I will share that Thunderbird is looking for the profiles.ini file and either not finding or or finding it and it doesn't point to a profile. The profiles.ini file must be located at c:\users\yourid\appdata\roaming\thunderbird. That is the one file that always must be in that location.
