This really some feed back to the development team. I just removed Firefox from my Windows 10 system because of the following reasons:

1. I don't understand why you have so many Bookmark categories. It makes no sense to me and adds a lot confusion to using bookmarks. I you import bookmarks from another browser, like IE, that all you really see. Not only that when I did import my bookmarks from IE I ended up see duplicates when I clicked on the bookmark link. It was just one big mess. You don't have a easy way to sort bookmarks.

2. Firefox keeps crashing and sending reports back to someone, but we don't get any feedback.

Sorry to hear about the crashes, and think you for filling out the Mozilla Crash Reporter form. That data is used to analyze and prioritize bug fixes, but they generally do not contact you. You're in the right place for that now. To share crash reports with forum volunteers, please check the support article "Firefox crashes - asking for support" for steps to get those crash report IDs from the about:crashes page (or if necessary from disk), and then post some of the recent ones here.

Also and/or meanwhile, could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? That temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features of Firefox that might make it more prone to crashing on some systems.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any less crashy?

(I think after we sort out the crashing, we can explore the bookmark issues.)

What bookmark categories do you mean?

  • the "Bookmarks Toolbar" folder stores the bookmarks that you see on the Bookmarks Toolbar (Firefox > Options or View > Toolbars).
  • the "Bookmarks Menu" folder stores bookmarks that show in the Bookmarks menu and are created via "Bookmark This Page" or via the star (Bookmark This Link) in the right-click context menu.
  • the "Other Bookmarks" folder stores bookmarks that are created by clicking the star at the right end of the location bar.

Some information about how bookmarking works:

  • click the star on the Navigation toolbar to bookmark the current tab in the "Other Bookmarks" folder (formerly named "Unsorted") and the star turns blue to indicate this
  • use "Bookmark This Page" (Ctrl+D; Mac:Command+D) to bookmark the page in the Bookmarks Menu folder

In Firefox 47+ releases the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog opens when you bookmark the current tab to make it easier to move the bookmark to another folder or edit the properties before saving the bookmark.

  • "Bookmark This Page" can be accessed via the right-click context menu in the browsing area or via the Bookmarks menu in the Firefox menu button drop down or menu bar (Alt+B)
  • when the URL in the current tab is bookmarked and the star is highlighted blue then "Bookmark This Page" and the tooltip of the star changes to "Edit This Bookmark"
  • click the highlighted star or use "Edit This Bookmark" (Ctrl+D; Mac:Command+D) to edit the properties of the bookmark like name and location and move the bookmark to another folder
  • click the Remove button to remove the bookmark

If you need to make changes to more bookmarks then you can use the Bookmarks Manager (Library; Show All Bookmarks).

You you need to sort bookmarks then you can right-click a folder and use "Sort By Name" to sort the bookmarks in this folder. The sorting is done between separators. See also: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Sorting+bookmarks
