Today I went into the profile manager and created a new profile. I didn't realize that in Run>%AppData%>Thunderbird>Profiles there were 6 other profiles either created or backed up by me. I did not back-up today's purposefully before the new profile (mistake?). I DID open the new profile once, which was stupid as it simply wanted to start a new Thunderbird from scratch, and I didn't. So... I opened the profile manager, highlighted what I believe is the closest profile to today, and opened it thinking all my folders and emails and apps would open, but it did not. Just a new window which retrieved a few new emails. Folders and old emails gone, but I know they are somewhere. I am missing something or some step? Would system restore work? I'm bummed as I had it set up great.

I suggest that you inspect the various profiles in your file manager to work out which one is the one you had been using. File dates and file sizes should be useful. Then you'll know which one to select via the profile manager.

I generally rename my working profile to something distinctive (e.g. "cjr_profile") so I can tell it at a glance, since other profiles created for testing would use the default "<random string>.default" naming scheme.

I'm stumped. The profile I want to use has a large number of folders and its obvious that its closest to my last configuration with emails.I even reverted back to an older version as I had some app compatibility issues. I left the option to open the desired profile, did it, and nothing. Just the basic configuration. Will I have to try to move all the folders individually? No fun there.

Are those folders profiles, or folders containing profiles? The profile management system uses both the name of the profile and its location. If you have changed either of these then it may not see the data as a valid profile.

So a possible reason I can't open a profile is because I renamed it. I can see the profile is a large size and obviously has my folders and emails in it, but when I open it from the profile manager, just the start welcome page in basic TBird. I may start a new thread asking about moving individual files into the new profile. Most of everything I need is there, just can't open them.

I have solved my issues with a correction on the Profile name, default, and path. Thanks
