I received an email today claiming to be from Mozilla advicing me to encrypt my data. Is this a genuine Mozilla email or someone trying to scam me into encryption for them to then charge to have the encryption removed?

Yes, it did come from mozilla@e.mozilla.org and so I will take it to be genuine and consider taking their recommendation to encrypt my files. Thank you for your help. Shushking

hi, if you have signed up to receive newsletters from mozilla it's probably genuine. those are sent out from the address mozilla@e.mozilla.org and contain clear credits and a possibility to unsubscribe at the end.
