When I launched Thunderbird today, it would not connect to one mailserver: imap.mailfence.com. At the same time, Thunderbird said to restart to update to 115.2.2. After updating, it still refuses to connect. There is nothing wrong with Mailfence and I do not find anything wrong with the configuration settings in Thunderbird. I even tried to set up my Mailfence email account again but it failed because it could not connect. Ideas? Thank you.

I am running version 115.12.2 (64-bit). I have deleted all stored passwords using Settings -> Privacy and Security -> Show Passwords. As expected, when I try to retrieve emails a pop-up appears asking for the password - which I save. However, when I try to send an email there is no pop-up and the remote server rejects the email. How do I set a new outgoing password?

Thunderbird 115.12.0 inline image encoding does not work and neither Thunderbird nor any other email client can decode the images. I would not be concerned if the images were instead sent as attachments -- anything would be better than the situation right now. Here is what a the sent message looks like (truncated):

I'm running Windows 10 Pro (64-bit). I have two different versions of Thunderbird installed on my system; one is installed in Program Files (64-bit version 125.0.0.0 dated 04/23/2024—old version) and the other is installed in Program Files (x86) (64-bit version 115.12.2.0 dated 06/25/2024—the current version). The shortcut icon on my desktop (which I never use) runs the older version located in the Program Files folder while the shortcut icon on my taskbar (and also the one in my Start menu) runs the updated version located in the Program Files (x86) folder.

As an aside, there are 21 .dll files in the Program Files (x86) folder (all starting with api-ms-win and dated 09/27/2023) while none of those files are in the Program Files folder.

FYI, I have been using Thunderbird on this PC for almost five years.

How do I fix this problem so that I have only the current version of Thunderbird run from the proper folder, Program Files?

I've configured an external gpg key for use in Thunderbird, but I'm unable to decrypt an encrypted message sent to myself via thunderbird. I've attached the error thunderbird gives me.

Sending a normal email, a signed email and an encrypted email works just fine. Verifying a signed email also works fine.

Extracting the GPG message, and attempting to manually decrypt it via gpg gives me the following error:

$ gpg --decrypt enc.txt gpg: encrypted with cv25519 key, ID 0xREDACTED, created 2020-01-01

     "REDACTED"

gpg: encrypted with cv25519 key, ID 0xREDACTED, created 2020-01-01

     "REDACTED"

gpg: [don't know]: invalid packet (ctb=2d) gpg: [don't know]: invalid packet (ctb=2d)

I followed the instructions here to setup my YubiKey OPGP w/ Thunderbird: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:OpenPGP:Smartcards#Configure_an_email_account_to_use_an_external_GnuPG_key

I have various multi-members set up on TB. Most of the time, I use them just as they are, but on occasion, I would like see the members of the list displayed in the "TO" field of the email, so I can delete one or two of them from a specific email. Is there a way to do this?

In Windows Live Mail, for example, clicking on the name of the list would display the members. This doesn't work in TB. Is there a similar function?

How can I add my Gmail address?

The settings menu gives me the option to mark an email as junk and then either move it to the junk folder or delete it. Fair enough.

But once messages are in the junk folder, I am trying to find an easy way to THEN delete them without clicking on "delete selected messages" which then sends them on to the trash file, where they AGAIN need to be deleted.

Assuming there's currently no way to do this, would it be difficult to add "empty folder" option to the junk file? That would save an unnecessary step.

I don't like to delete them straight off because I might accidentally delete a message I want to keep, so I use the junk folder to give them a second chance as it were. But I'm trying to avoid the third chance.

The default attribution line created by Thunderbird when replying doesn't work well when sending e-mail to Outlook users. [Unfortunately, Outlook users comprise 100% of the people to whom I send emails in TB.] TB's default attribution line causes Outlook OWA to hide the entire reply from the reader unless they click on a [...] button to show it. Then when displayed, the entire message is quoted/indented.

Yes, this is a bug in Outlook. No, it's not going to get fixed.

This can be avoided by changing the attribution line which current defaults to:

Simply adding a space after the colon at the end of the line "fixes" the problem, but it's annoying to have to do that manually.

Can that attribution line be configured somewhere?

I've found all sorts of addons that let you muck with the headers of replies, but the headers are fine. It's just the attribution line that needs to be fixed.
