Updated to Firefox10 and now it opens a new Firefox Icon when Firefox is running instead of changing the task bar icon to show it is running. This messes up my whole task bar setup. Pretty annoying.

I'm having this problem on two computers - a desktop and laptop both running Windows 7 and it is EXTREMELY annoying - enough so that I'll most likely change my browser if there is no fix as the above solution doesn't work for me.

Hi ritekgirl,

Please also try after restarting the PC. This may sometimes help with stuck taskbar icons.

Thanks Vivek but that did not help, although I was able to solve the problem after finding another response to a similar problem. For anyone else who might have this problem:

  1. Open FF up.
  2. Unpin the current FF icon from the taskbar.
  3. Right click on the icon that appeared when you opened up FF in step one and choose "Pin This Item To The Taskbar".

Voila! problem fixed.
