i just backed up my bookmarks to a plug-in drive so i could upgrade my system to win 7 (64 bit). after installing the new firefox i tried to import my old bookmarks but the back up file was not recognized. it seems the new firefox wants only "json" files or "html" files and my backup file is neither of these, what to do?

Got it! somewhere in the transition the file type got stripped. All I had to do was rename the file with the "json" extension and it was good to go! WHEW !!!

JSON backups get restored, HTML exports get imported.
