Have used Thunderbird for years. I have always used shared folders in a Dropbox account so I can automatically sync between Desktop and Laptop.

AOL updated my "Verizon.net" account from Pop to IMAP.

I updated the SERVER SETTINGS Local Directory to my existing DROPBOX folder. I updated toe SERVER SETTINGS/'Advanced section IMAP server directory to same DROPBOX folder. The Location field of the EDIT/Folder Properties for INBOX shows this : imap://username%40verizon.net@imap.aol.com/INBOX This field is unchangeable and this is where Thunderbird is going.

How do I make Thunderbird accept my preferences for local directory????

BIG RED "X" on dropbox. And if you are using imap then you don't need it. Don't do it.
