"go to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox and open the update-settings.ini* with Notepad++. Remove the part after the = symbol (firefox-mozilla-release) and save it" I've done this in 68.0.1 and it doesn't stop the notices from popping up, at least once a day. Anyone found a solution that works?

@cor-el: Yup, I'm aware that 68.0.2 is available - FF opened the small window asking me to update, then today opened a much larger window in the middle of my screen. (Changing 'app.update.doorhanger' from 'true' to 'false' responsible for the larger window?) At any rate, FF continues its obnoxious behavior. I don't want to update because I'm afraid that FF will force the creation of a new profile, as it did when I changed from 68.0.1esr to 68.0.1, and again wipe out everything. I don't like Chrome, and IE is glacially slow, but I need to find an alternative to FF.
