I've tried to delete/erase with the integrated library, that's the way that doesn't succeed. It's strange, I can rename and replace the folders, but I'm not able to get rid of them. I've even installed Xmarks. When I delete the folder in Xmarks, the folder desappears, but only in Xmarks, even after Sync with Xmarks.

Did you try to delete the places.sqlite* files in case there is a problem?

The file should have 2265 bookmarks including folders and separators.

Your answer: If the Places database damage seems to be limited to bookmarks, for example, if certain bookmarks cannot be deleted, moved, or edited, try creating a new bookmark backup file in Firefox via "Bookmarks -> Show all (or Organize) Bookmarks -> Import and Backup -> Backup" and then restore the new backup, as an alternative to rebuilding the Places database. The problem is that I can't create a *.json-File as Backup. Firefox doesn't save the file when I "Backup". So I have no file to restore!

Aren't there any backups in the bookmarkbackups folder that have bookmarks in it?

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.json

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

The last file I find in the backup folder is called "bookmarks-2015-05-09_2265_vYhzSS62wiLTzCagH2PUWw==.jsonlz4". It hasn't the ending *.json but *.jsonlz4. I'm not able to restore it. I'm not able to restore any of the backup files and I have tried all of them! :-((
