Bookmark "Open all in tabs" deletes all current tabs

more options

Fresh install of Firefox 29

I have several submenu's of bookmark categories. With Firefox 28 I used to open a blank tab, go to a bookmark subcategory and "Open all in tabs", and the blank tab would be replaced with the several pages I had listed in the bookmark subcategory. All my existing tabs except the blank tab would remain on my tab bar.

Except now, they didn't. All my tabs gone, replaced by the bookmarks I just opened. Yes I can probably find the original in history, etc. but that's not the point. Why are tabs being deleted like this? I consider tab loss a very serious issue, it's akin to data loss, which is not really acceptable.

Hi Tentest, Are the tab still open in the drop down arrow on the far right of the tab bar?

Also what are your setting for tabs in the options menu?

more options

No, the tabs disappear from the drop down arrow as well.

Settings: Open links that open in a new window in: New Tab [x]Warn me when closing multiple tabs [] Warn me when closing window with multiple tabs [x]Warn me when closing window with protected tabs

[x]Warn me when opening multiple tabs might slow down Firefox [x]Don't load tabs until selected []When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately []Show tab previews in the Windows taskbar

Hide the tab bar: Never

Though I don't see that ANY of these settings have anything to do with this issue at all.

Ok, I asked about those options because this may affect what happens when you open a new tab.

I tried to reproduce this with these steps with the Classic Theme Restorer add on enabled.

  1. Open a new window and open a few tabs.
  2. Command B to open the bookmark panel
  3. Right click on a folder and click "Open in all tabs"

Results: All tabs were opened with the bookmarks, tabs that were already open were still on the same page.

It is possible to reset Firefox or to try the Classic Theme Restorer. Let us know if this helps.

Now this could be a nasty bug. If someone or administrator could forward it for next release that would be great.

Problem: I had 15 tabs in one Firefox window. I clicked on Bookmarks menu and clicked on a Bookmark folder and right click and selected 'Open All in tabs'. It loads the bookmarks in the same window and the existing tabs are deleted or lost. I couldn't find any way to restore the session or recover the deleted tabs.

Firefox Version: 32.0.3 on Windows 7 Desktop

You can set the warning pref to 1 to get at least warned.

  • browser.tabs.maxOpenBeforeWarn = 1

Try to hold down Shift and Ctrl when left clicking "Open All in Tabs"

Thanks but not all users might know this. But I think this should be logged as an official bug. The tabs are lost forever when performed that action.
