The main page is slow to launch and then launches in duplicate after 5 mins or more

I downloaded Firefox version 6.0.1 over Firefox version 5.

When I go to my start button on FX to launch my browser, now it takes my browser page over 5 minutes or more to launch and sometimes it will launch with multiple browser pages opening at the same time.

What can I do to stop this.
