Thunderbird 78 to 91 Update Question

Thunderbird recently updated from 78 to 91 but, when as I was reading the release notes, it states:

"Thunderbird 91 is only offered as direct download from thunderbird.net and not as an upgrade from Thunderbird version 78 or earlier. A future release will provide updates from earlier versions.".

Not to sound paranoid but I didn't do a direct download from the site and just manually checked if there was an update via; Help > About > manual update option and it updated to the latest version as of this writing. I found out only after updating then reading the release notes.

My question is, has that "future release" been released so that Thunderbird auto updates from 78 to 91 and the release notes just hasn't been updated?
