I've been using Thunderbird with an Office 365 account successfully all year. There was already a dedicated app password for it that I created months ago. Went into work this morning and now my email will not load and it keeps kicking up this error message: "Enter your password for xxxx@domain.com on outlook.office365.com" I deleted the existing app password and created a new one, but entering that did not work. Tried my regular Outlook password just in case, but that also obviously did not work. Any thoughts on what to try next? This is super-frustrating and searching for other people's solutions hasn't helped either.

Delete the password entries from Thunderbird's password manager and enter the new app password.

Tried that, but still no good. I think it's something with the authentication settings because I ran into the same problem with Zoom today as well. Got that app syncing again by switching to OAUTH2, but when I try that with TB it says that the server won't accept that authentication method.

Okay, nope. I tried that and made sure all the settings match what's recommended for Outlook/MS 365 and I'm right back at square one.

What do you mean "back to square one"? Do you mean the right settings don't stick and they revert back to the wrong ones?

more options

No, I mean that now that I've corrected everything with the settings it's back to asking me for the password and rejecting every single one I try to use.

Is 2-step verification still enabled for the account? If so, use an app-specific password with "Normal Password" as the authentication method. If not, use your primary account password instead. Also, make sure your full email address is the User Name.

Yes, 2FA is required on this account. I already have an app-specific password for this and "Normal Password" in the authentication settings. Email address/UID is correct. This setup was working until yesterday and I cannot get it functional again. I have already tried creating a new app password today and that keeps getting rejected as well.

I have a very similar problem. Two days ago, I successfully setup Thunderbird with App Password for Gmail. Then yesterday, I noticed it asking for authentication again. I had to delete the App Password I made for Thunderbird, and make a new one. It worked again, but now this morning, I am again unable to log in.

@spaceflight84 have you tried deleting the old App Password before adding a new one?

I am on Thunderbird 68.10.0, Ubuntu 20.04, everything up to date.

Use OAuth2 authentication for Gmail.
