I often type things into the url bar to check their spelling (eg for programs that don't have spell check), and copy the correct version to my clipboard, however firefox adds an "http://" to the start of my word when copied, even if it was a search term (ie "search with google"). I doubt this is intended behaviour, but was wondering if there was a way to disable this

A possible workaround you can try is to type a space character at the start of the text.

You can also make the HTTP protocol visible.

You can set this pref to false on the about:config page.

  • browser.urlbar.trimURLs = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

I tried setting trimURLs to false, but it only seems to make the http:// visible for existing urls, rather than the search term. The space thing works, although it is just a workaround, and a few extra keystrokes

After experimenting it seems that the http:// is only added if i copy the text from a suggested response. Would it make sense to open a bug report about this?

Thanks regardless
