Hi i am trying to sign in but Thunderbird was set up in store when I purchased the computer & i do not have access to the login details that it was set up with & I can no longer access the email address I had the time of purchase. I have tried to reset the username & the password but cannot get the links forwarded to my new email address

You do not sign into Thunderbird. You sign into your email account with Thunderbird. Your username is your email address and your password is whatever you set when you established your email service with your email provider. Contact your provider for help with a forgotten email password.
