I keep turning off the message pane but Tbird keeps turning it back on. How do I permanently turn off the message pane.

I have turned off the message pane multiple times but a various time intervals it will reappear. I am running Win 10 and Thunderbird 45.2. Although it has been a problem in other versions it occurs more frequently now. Solution??

some years ago I wrote a blog post about this very issue and ccleaner See http://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com.au/2012/06/thunderbird-and-ccleaner-or-my-settings.html

They have not changed their ways, so I am guessing you have that installed.

Thanks for the response, but I figured that out when I was using WIN 7 and it worked until I upgraded to WIN 10. For some reason the message pane keeps returning and is unrelated to my CCleaner settings.

Have you checked your CCleaner settings? I use Windows 10 and settings stay exactly as I set them. So it is not some weird interaction between Windows 10 and Thunderbird.
