I set up subfolders and then transferred msgs. The sf's then disappeared along with thr msgs. How do I retrieve this important info? Thanks

I set-up subfolders, then moved msgs from the inbox into them. Then most of the subfolders disappeared along with the msgs. How do I retrieve this important info?

is the account IMAP or POP? If IMAP, does the server support sub folders? Does it support sub folders of the inbox or somewhere else?
