Hi.. I had the Yahoo spigot infection. I found the file responsible in my temp folders. Malwarebytes found other files there as well. Once I deleted those files, the Yahoo page no longer showed and I could choose a default home page again.

But in the process, it stopped the tab memory.

It used to be that I could close FF, with several tabs open. It would have all of those tabs again next time I started FF. Now, it warns me that it will close all tabs, and when I start FF again, it only has one tab.

Can that be fixed?

You may have corrupt sessionstore file(s).

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the sessionstore file(s). Then rename or delete them. Restart Firefox.

You can check the startup setting:

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox starts":
"Show my windows and tabs from last time"
    "Show my home page"
    "Show a blank page"

I found a work-around.

I setup a tabs group, and once it was named the tabs stayed put.

When I came back here, I found both replies very useful - thank you! They are noted for next time I need such info.

cor-el, My startup is as you suggest, "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

Fred, just one question...

I found a file called 'sessionCheckpoints.json' and a folder called 'sessionstore-backups' (containing 5 java files). Are either of these the ones you mean?

Cheers!!

I don't think there is a reason to delete the files in the sessionstore-backups folder and the other file (sessionCheckpoints.json) you mentioned if you do not have a problem with session restore.

You can find these files in the sessionstore-backups folder:

previous.js (cleanBackup: copy of sessionstore.js from previous session that was loaded successfully)
recovery.js (latest version of the sessionstore written during runtime)
recovery.bak (previous version of the sessionstore written during runtime)
upgrade.js-<build_id> (backup created during an upgrade of Firefox)

You can copy a file from the sessionstore-backups folder to the main profile and rename the file to sessionstore.js to replace the current file (make a backup copy of the current sessionstore.js).
