slow response (several seconds) to hovering, scrolling, typing, etc

more options

Got the latest couple of FF updates installed and recently cleared my caches & restarted the Mac. FF is responding slowly to my input, such as hovering over something (waiting for the pointer hand to change to the vertical line indicating I can type...) or scrolling. Or if I see a typo, I delete back several characters, but it takes seconds for my ability to type & see the characters appear on the screen to become active again.

WTF ???

Hello,

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Refreshing Firefox {web link} is a LAST RESORT ! !

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Refresh is a drastic solution. And Hardware Acceleration is already off. This problem started within the last couple of FF updates.

It also is slow when I try to switch to a different app. When I move the pointer down to the bottom of the screen, it takes seconds for the "bar" to pop up and allow me to switch or open another app.

My DSL speed is OK.

I'm NOT getting Console Errors when its slow.

Something INTERNAL to this new FF update is just making it slow.

I just emptied my Macintosh User Library Cache & restarted, and its OK for now. But the problem recurs after a while. But I don't have large numbers of Tabs open (which can slow things down by using all my computer's RAM).
