How do I get Firefox to stop opening the last site I visited every time I close and restart it?

That's my entire problem: Ever since the last upgrade, Firefox has been reopening previous sites I have visited without being told to do so every time I start it. I have tried changing the home page and tab-loading options, but that does not work.

I really like Firefox and I don't want to have to start using a different browser. I want Firefox to STOP loading sites in tabs every time I start it. Please tell me whether this issue can be fixed, and how to accomplish the fix.

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

Note that Windows hides some file extensions by default. Among them are .html and .ini and .js and .txt, so you may only see file name without file extension. You can see the real file type (file extension) in the properties of the file via the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer.
