On a particular survey website, when clicking on a link to open the survey, the above is all that is in the address box and the page is black. I have contacted the website and they can only suggest I clear cookies. Bogus suggestion, always. In any case, I have only had this issue for the past 2 days, at which time, my Firefox 'undid' itself and reloaded with incorrect settings. I could only attempt to reset as best I could, but can find no other issues that it could be. My final option if you have no response, is to system restore. Did FF update????

Have you seen if it does the same in another browser such as Internet Explorer?

In case this is a problem with the site failing to redirect correctly, could you check to see whether you might be blocking that.

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the "General" mini-tab, if it's checked, try unchecking the box for "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page"

To address some other points:

(1) You can see when Firefox updated on the Troubleshooting Information page. Either:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table "Application Basics" is a button to "Show Update History"

(2) Removing cookies is not always bogus if you allow persistent cookies. When sites change and modify their cookies, having Firefox continue to store and send the old ones sometimes causes problems. You can remove just that one site's cookies from the Page Info dialog. While view a page on the site, either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or globe icon > More Information > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Some firewalls like Kaspersky can block content and send a 1x1 GIF image instead.
