I have Firefox V3.6.24. Why regardless if I upgrade to the latest V or just download the latest V 8.0, 3.6.24 loads back up?

I am trying to install the latest versions of Firefox & Thunderbird. When I upgrade Firefox it either re-installs the same version or downgrades the version of Thunderbird installed.

Then if it does upgrade properly, it changes Thunderbird V 8.0 to an earlier version! Then when I upgrade Thunderbird back to V8.0, it changes Firefox back to V3.6.25.

I have upgraded many, many times and never had any thing like this happen before.

Your UserAgent string in Firefox is probably messed up by another program that you installed.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Agent

type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter
If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.
Filter = general.useragent.
Right-click the preferences that are bold, one line at a time, and select Reset.
Then restart Firefox

the-edmeister,

Thanks a million! It worked like magic!

In case anyone had the same problem these are the specific steps I took after I reset the 2 offending entries that appeared: I Restart Firefox>Still Ver3.6.24>Selected Help>Check for Updates> New version availabvle 8.0.1>Selected Get new version>It started Downloading ?>The update will be installed the next time Firefox starts...>I restart Firefox>Firefox opened>A dialog box open>Opening Firefox Setup 8.0.1.exe-> I checked the Version> IT WAS 8.0.1!!!.

Thanks again,

Brian
