7.0 version has slowed down getting onto and out of the Internet to a unbearable crawl. Is there any way to fix this?
I read earlier that I might go back to a 3.0.7? version of Firefox. Otherwise, I'll have to find another browser.

Yes for both possible fixes, and downgrading to Firefox 3.6 See
