I use the password recognition feature regularly, although I notice it doesn't ALWAYS recognise when I'm entering a new one. Recently it has "lost" the username/password to my gmail account entirely, and when I re-enter it, it is not recognised. (Yes, I know where the usernames/passwords are stored, and it's not there.) Is there a way to force Firefox to "WAKE UP AND PAY ATTENTION!" when I'm entering a new username? I'm using version 6.0.2 with Windows 7.

Google (GMail) seems to have changed their log in page to a different domain, so you need to re-enter the name(s) and password(s) to make Firefox remember and fill them.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"
