The version I have of Firefox works well and I want to install it in another laptop. So my question is where do I look in the laptop to find out what version I currently have? Thanks.

Under HELP on bar at top of page, click About Firefox. This is the answer for a lot of programs.

If you don't see your menu bar, press "Alt" first.

Help (menu) --> About firefox

You will find your actual user-agent string and lots of other information in

Help > Troubleshooting information

If you want the use the red "Firefox" button in the second column is "Help" then continue as above.

You can make Firefox Firefox 5.0 look like Firefox 3.6.19, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 5.0, or 4.0.1, look like 3.6). Whether or not you make changes, you should be aware of what has changed and what you have to do to use changed or missing features.

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

  • Uninstall your current Firefox version.
  • Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
