It seems that the Stop option, to stop a browser that takes too long time to obtain a web page, disappeared. This is unacceptable. I that I could customize it but could not find it anywhere. Not every new "invention" by a programmer is a good idea - if i can't get this function back, I wont be able to use this version!

The Stop button moved to the end of the address box, just after the star. Once the page finishes loading, it turns into the Reload button. When you start typing a new address or search, it turns into a Go button. Can you live with that or would you prefer to split them apart?

You can also press the ESC key to stop the page loading.

To move the Stop and Reload buttons to their position to the left of the location bar you can use these steps:

  • Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
  • Drag the Reload and Stop buttons to their previous position to the left of the location bar.
  • Set the order to "Reload - Stop" to get a combined "Reload/Stop" button.
  • Set the order to "Stop - Reload" or separate them otherwise to get two distinct buttons.

Many thanks to both of you. As far as the suggestion by cor-el to use "...->Customize" - obviously I checked that first but there was no such buttons available there.

This info was helpful, but the left end, separate reload and stop buttons should be the default. Mid-toolbar is the wrong place, they are functionally related to the forward/back buttons. This is actually a big deal for me. I won't use the new version if I can't customize these buttons.

Don't try to adopt the MS IE nonsense layout. Be yourselves.

I will consider trying FF 5 if you have fixed the crash problem that made FF4 unusable.

Fortunately, you can, as noted above.

Well, I made the huge mistake of trying FF5. It crashes every few minutes, even worse than FF4, making it completely useless. Do you guys have any idea what causes these crash problems? Judging by forum posts, many users are having the same experience.

I use FF because of the plugins that I find helpful, especially NoScript and AdBlock+, plus a few others that improve the window layout, and others that help with viewing and downloads.

Chrome is not an option for me; I block Google Analytics and other stalkware scripts that track browsing behavior.

Maybe I'll have to check out Opera. What is the matter with the current crop of FF developers? Are they really so clueless about what users want?

Oh, BTW, I reverted to FF 3.6.16 and it does not crash.
