Why is the address bar gray, now? Why doesn't tiling using the super+arrow keys work quite right anymore?

I just updated Firefox. That's supposed to improve things, right?

Now the address bar is gray most of the time. It looks normal when I'm entering a search, or editing a URL, the rest of the time, it's just ugly now. I don't like things to be changed arbitrarily like that. What is the rationale for changing the way that looks? How can I change it back? Please give me a setting, or about:config preference, and please don't get direct file editing involved, okay?

Why doesn't tiling the windows work as well as it used to? Yesterday, I could hit super+left, or super+right, from a maximized window, and it'd tile to the left or right side of the screen perfectly, the first time, every time, no problems. Now it has an intermediate stage where there's a gap all the way around the window. It seems to improve by clicking on a different window, then back into the Firefox window, but that intermediate step just shouldn't happen! What's a fix for this?

I also hit the button at the bottom to include optional troubleshooting information, but it said instead, "We can't automatically get your browser's troubleshooting data, please try these manual steps." No, I'm not doing that, get that thing working right, too!

You can try Firefox from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution to see if it behaves differently.

You can make the address bar white by installing a different theme like Photon Colors.

So, the coloration part of it, this is a theme issue? The update changed the default theme? Well, I tried looking up the word default, to find an older version of the default theme, and the Mozilla Addons page lists hundreds with that word, and I'm guessing not many of them are legitimately other versions of the default theme, so that's pretty awful. How can I find, for example, the default theme that would have been in my prior version of Firefox? The theme still looked the same as I wanted on version 119 at least, and maybe a version or two after that.

Would changing back to an older version of the default theme also fix the unwanted fading of the tab bar on out of focus windows?

The "System theme" uses colors from your system which may change over time independent of the browser.

The built-in "Light" theme has had a gray address bar for some time.

Maybe so, but Firefox has changed its appearance, despite not having made changes to my OS's theme settings. It sure seems that something's not the same as it was, in this newer version, with regard to how the Firefox System theme works.

It looks like the Linux theme was updated in Firefox 122 to catch up with or prepare for changes in "Adwaita".

From what I can see in the source code of Firefox 124.0.1 on line 18, the address bar changes apply if you have not set GNOME to use high contrast. But working around this by setting high contrast globally likely will cause many other issues, so an add-on theme likely is the best workaround.
