I've been using the same pinned links on my Firefox home screen for ages, and I depend on them. They were there this morning, but as soon as I rebooted my computer (Win 10 64) those links seem to be replaced by Firefox's "recent" links and my pinned links are gone. How do I recover them? Some are crucial to my work.

FYI: Firefox has no home-screen or page it has a default page of most used links only. If you want links to remain you need to bookmark them instead. Otherwise you need to look a the History to find them again. PIN tabs are no guarantee they remain or get lost.

^: That is not true. The page with the tiles that shows by default as the homepage (about:home) and as the new tab page (about:newtab) is called the Firefox Home page like you can inspect via "Settings -> Home".

The pinned tabs are stored in a pref that you can find on the about:config page, so it looks that your preferences got reset. Are other settings gone as well ?

Changes made manually on the Firefox Home page are stored in prefs that you can find on the about:config page.

You can backup the values of the browser.newtabpage.pinned pref to be able to restore pinned tabs.

Thanks for your reply, cor-el.

My other settings/bookmarks are intact, so this is not a new profile. Looking at my update history the change does not coincide with a browser update - the most recent update was installed AFTER all my pinned links on the new tab page went missing.

When I look at browser.newtabpage.pinned, there is no data in this setting. There is still data in the browser.newtabpage.blocked setting.

I checked profiles, and I'm using my default profile. There is one other profile listed but it is empty, with no settings, bookmarks, or add-ins.

I did sign in to Firefox on a new computer to transfer my browser settings recently, and I believe this has to be the issue. I'll see if there are any sync settings that could help. Perhaps the new machine's browser overwrote my main machine's browser settings? When syncing, what is Firefox's default sync direction, if that makes sense?
