Every now and then I get alerted that I am running out of storage, when I check to see which applications are causing this, it is always Thunderbird which supposedly is registering 150+GB, which is crazy! I have to keep the application closed and only open when I need to check for emails. I only have two email accounts on it and they don't have much traffic so I am at a loss to know why/how this is happening or what I can do to prevent it.

Try open in Thunderbird and from the file menu choose compact.

Generally huge stores are the result of not compacting to free no longer used space on the drive. So every mail allocates space every move increases the space used and every delete results is no space being recovered.

Hi Wayne - IMAP

Hi Matt - don't think it is a storage issue as such - I only have two small email accounts on thunderbird with very little traffic. The 'compact folders' tab on File is greyed out anyway.

It may be greyed out depending on what you have selected. What if you have an account name selected?

Do you have any addons installed according to tools > addons?
