i have a .p12 containing my priv and pub key. i tested that. the certificate is available when i import the p12. but when i try to sign any message, it says the certificate is not valid or the key can not be found. i tested it with keystore explorer that showed me my public and private key. and that was working in thunderbird before i re-installed fedora. so i assume i either changed something in the configuration or something else is broken. but i am lost - no idea where to look at.

the error (i am german) is: Senden der Nachricht fehlgeschlagen.

i went to the account -> rightclick -> settings -> end to end encryption -> S/MIME -> manage S/MIME certificates (a popup appears) -> your certificates -> import i translated the fields from german to english so they might differ a little bit in that popup i can see in "your certificates" my certificate. it is valid until dez. 2024. then i selected that certificate in "personal certificate for signing" and "personal certificate for encryption"

wow thats wierd, i selected "empty" on the both certificates (sign + encrypt), and selected them manually. when it asks me, if it should automatically use the same certificate for signing, i said no and selected them manually. now it works. this is really odd
