Hi I upgrated my ssd disk of my laptop. The old one ssd is not ble to reboot the windows 10 SO, so I'm not able to export credencials from in order to import into this new one. How can I import that credencials information to this new one? I have already created some credentials to some sites as needed to download software to work. Thanks in advance for your help Jorge Pimentel

Hi Jorge, as mentioned in the article I linked, there is a pair of files needed to transfer saved logins from your old profile to your current one. Unfortunately, there's no good way to merge old and new, but you can replace the current files with the old ones.

The file names are:

  • logins.json
  • key4.db

I find it helpful to put the source window (old disk) on the left and the destination window (live disk) on the right. To open that file explorer window for the current profile folder, check out the steps in this article:

Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data

Before replacing files, please:

(1) Exit Firefox and give it several seconds to finish its shutdown cleanup and release file locks.

(2) Right-click > Rename the unwanted files by adding OLD into the name (for example, loginsOLD.json, key4OLD.db). This will allow you to recover them in case something goes terribly wrong. (The things that may go wrong are: old files do not work or you accidentally copied in the wrong direction.)

Hi Jorge, can you access your old SSD as an additional disk (for example, via USB)?

If you set Windows to show hidden files and folders -- https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files-0320fe58-0117-fd59-6851-9b7f9840fdb2 -- then you can explore the old drive and copy over your old data folder(s) or individual files from those folders.

For example, let's say the old disk is E: then you would check here:

E:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Firefox\Profiles

Under Profiles, you should find one or more folders with partially random names, like abc123z9.default. This is where Firefox stored your data. Can you find it?

The following article has tips on which files contain what data: Recovering important data from an old profile.

Hi Jefferson Yes, I'm able to see a file similar to the one you mentioned. There are several files in that folder. Next step please. Thanks Jorge
