I want to delete some saved logins but it's way too slow

I have a loooong list of stored passwords, which are synced across multiple devices. As it takes longer and longer to open/edit, I want to clean the list, but removing the obsolete logins takes ages.

When deleting 30 logins at once, Firefox seems stuck for about an hour. Why is that, and isn't there an alternative way to do it without removing all of them? I've also tried using Safe Mode to make sure no add-ons are interfering.

Hi Gus8, there is no other editor for saved logins.

What if you temporarily disconnect from the network so that Firefox doesn't try to Sync in real time. Does that speed up the process? Does it "stick" once Sync runs again?

Logins are saved in a data file named logins.json as one long line of structured text data. In theory you could edit it manually, but... you definitely would want to make a backup and you may need an editor that can help identify the beginning and end of different strings with highlighting for JavaScript coders.

Have you tried disconnecting from Sync, first?

Maybe that will speed up the process.

I would suggest to create a backup of logins.json after having removed the passwords with Sync disconnected just in case Firefox would want to restore the passwords from Sync instead of updating the data on the Sync server.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Thanks for your suggestions and sorry for my (very) late reply, I just found a chance to try things out. When disconnected from Sync, deleting logins still takes ages. After I re-connect, it puts the deleted accounts back in. So that's not helping.

I've checked the logins.json as well, and tried modifying directly, but I can't manage this easily. Also the usernames/passwords are encrypted, whereas for some sites I need to know what accounts are involved. So guess I'll have to go with the big list and a lot of patience...
