If, for instance, I go to the advanced option in Display/Formatting/Advanced (see screen capture) it shows me that mails are set to Unicode (UTF-8), Fine. However, if I want to change it and select the drop down menu, the Unicode UTF-8 option is at the top of the list of options, but there is no text visible, just a white box. If I then go down the list with the mouse, the UTF-8 text appears the minute it is not selected but the next option in turn is now no longer visible. It happens if I use the cursor keys to scroll through the list rather than the mouse. This seems to happen with all menus. What is wrong?

See the attached picture from my TB 60/W7 Options. If you don't see something similar, you may have a broken layout. Run TB in safe mode (hold Shift when you launch TB), and see if it makes any difference.

Thanks for your reply. I have decided to revert to 52.9.1 which was stable and all the add ins I had set up over the years were all valid and working. 60 broke too many of them and with issues such as the one I asked about it was a pita.

Thunderbird 60 disabled you non supported add-ons. (Those not marked by their authors as compatible with Thunderbird 60) That is because they make Thunderbird unstable if enabled. Can you confirm you either re-enabled the add-ons or had some marked as being for Thunderbird 60 that caused issues?

I disabled and removed all 60.0 non-compatible add ins and the problem was still there. Now that I have reverted to 53.9.1, everything is as it always used to be.
