Hotmail was working fine until a couple of days ago. When I open it, everything is OK until I click on a link in an email (which works). When I return to Hotmail after viewing the link and then click on an email link with the middle mouse button (which normally opens a new tab) I get a scrolling circle (i.e. move mouse up to go down; down to go up). If I right click the link to try to select the option to open the link in a new tab/window, instead it opens an email way down the page of my Inbox. It's driving me nuts!! the only way to fix it is to refresh Hotmail. It will then work for one link in another email before the weird behaviour starts again. Tonight in desperation I performed a Firefox Refresh, to no avail. I know this is a Firefox issue because I tried Edge and it worked perfectly.

There have been issues reported with Outlook (Hotmail).

  • [/questions/1201654#answer-1070457] When using my hotmailaccount in Firefox I have to reload the mailaccount constantly due to the pointer (hand) vanish and is replaced with the arrow!

A possible workaround that you can try is to modify these prefs on the about:config page:

  • layout.css.stylo-blocklist.enabled => true
  • layout.css.stylo-blocklist.blocked_domains => live.com

See comment 8 and comment 9:

  • bug 1433591#c8 - Links and text selection in Outlook messages broken, mouse action received by Inbox behind open message

Oops just (maybe) found the answer. I am running the Beta version. Just need to work out how to feed this back through the proper channel. :-)

Good advice here never use Beta unless your doing it for testing purpose only.

OK so I am now running the full version 58 and still having the same issues. I have just tried a Refresh but the problem is still there.

What is the problem exactly? Step by step so others can see if they get the same result in hotmail.

Thanks for responding WestEnd. Not sure I can describe it more accurately than I already have. The only thing I can add is that after opening an email I am unable to scroll within the email for a few seconds. And sometimes not at all. Often after I close the email (even without clicking on a link) I will find myself quite a way down my Inbox page.

Hi cor-el Many thanks - I modified the settings as suggested and it works perfectly! Thank you very much for your help. Hopefully this post will help others with the same problem until it is patched.
