I also have this problem
Current attempted fixes:
- Deleted google* cookies and cache
- New profile
- Disabled Addons
- Fiddled with about:config
- Started Firefox in safe mode (no change)
- Refreshed firefox
DuckDuckGo works just fine as does the aforementioned add-on
System details:
- Firefox 58.0b6
- Ubuntu 17.04
