Firefox started freezing when I scroll or type on all web sites on 5-8-2017. I have refreshed several times and uninstalled and reinstalled firefox but the problem persists. I am using a laptop with windows 7. I have the paid version of bitdefender total security 2017. I have seen some posts where others were experiencing the same problem at around the same time with the free version of bitdefender. Right now I am not sure if bitdefender is the cause of the problem.

Update BitDefender. If the problem continues, disable it. If the problem then goes away, contact BitDefender support.

If there is still a problem; Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Do you have Bitdefender Antivirus software?

This software has been reported to cause issues with the current release due to an update of its database files. I'm not sure if Bitdefender already has released a fix for this, so you can check their support.

I do have bitdefender, the paid version, total security 2017. I resorted to creating a new profile after uninstalling and reinstalling and refreshing did not work. The new profile is working at the moment.

Well I spoke too soon. Firefox is freezing up with the new profile. I will uninstall bitdefender and see what happens.

I disabled bitdefender and that did not help. I have tried safe mode and that did not help. I have tired everything I know to do - refreshing, reinstalling, a new profile, safe mode - and nothing has helped. I will remove bitdefender later today and and reinstall it and see if that will make a difference. If it doesn't help then I am at a loss as what to do next. Can someone please help me. The freezing on all websites is only with firefox. Google chrome works okay. I am to the point I am about ready to just format my computer.

After you remove bitdefender, then retry Firefox.
