As of 2 days ago my sent messages written in plain text are being sent with the HTML metadata visible. For example if I write the following "hello this is a test", thunderbird will now sent this to the recipient (and place the same in my sent folder):

<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"> Hello this is a test

Hi Toad-Hall, that was one of the first things I tried. Makes no difference on or off. I'm testing it by sending mails to another of my accounts and there is no preference for HTML receive set.

send me a test mail. unicorn.consulting at gmail dot com. Lets see what appears.

Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.

Hi Matt,

I've disabled all plugins and tried safe mode but it hasn't solved the problem. Any other ideas?

Check your sending options.

'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > 'Composition' > 'General' tab click on 'Send Options' button.

select: 'Send messages as plain text if possible.' click on OK

Check address books contacts to see if they have 'prefers to receive messages formatted as:' eg: HTML

Matt has solved the problem, this was his solution if anyone else gets this issue:

In options > composition > general Select the send options button. Make sure the send as text when possible is NOT selected and that send is set to HTML only or both. (Both is better really if it will work for you.)

Thanks.
