I have Firefox 45.0.1 installed on windows 2012 server, and whenever I try playing .mp4 on Firefox, it downloads .mp4 rather than playing it on browser. Based on reading few posts on same issue, I did set the following setting "media.play-stand-alone" to true, and "media.windows-media-foundation.enabled" to true. But it still Firefox is downloading files rather than playing.

Can anyone please let me know what settings, and files have to be tuned in Firefox in order for it to play .mp4 on browser rather than playing?

Did you save the MP4 files to your computer and try to play them locally or are they hosted on internet?

With files hosted on internet it depends on how the server sends the files.

The file is being played via interner using amazon cloudfront. It plays well on chrome but when played via firefox it asks for download on windows server.

It's not able to even play Video locally. I save the file, and ask it open with Firefox but it gives me the same dialog asking "What should firefox do with this file" .. Attached the image

But the file plays fine with Chrome browser

Rename/remove the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

I removed all entries in mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions, but still I am seeing the same behavior. Firefox is not able to play video locally too.
